Schoenhofen Pyramid Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery, Chicago

The pyramid and sphinx on the Schoenhofen Pyramid Mausoleum (1893) in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago are Egyptian Revival. The angel is not. Perhaps Peter Schoenhofen, the wealthy Chicago brewer buried here, was concerned that using pagan Egyptian architecture for his tomb might offend his Christian God and he added the angel to demonstrate his faith.
