The uraeus, a snake with head upright, was an ancient Egyptian symbol for divine or royal authority. Snakes or serpents were symbols used by other ancient cultures including the Greeks and Romans. Serpents are also prominent in Christian symbolism.
This serpent is located on the bronze door of the Schoenhofen Pyramid Mausoleum (1893) in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.
