Tree stones were a popular tombstone style from the 1850s through the 1920s. This style was recommended and paid for by the Woodmen of America’s burial insurance program. These three options featuring the Woodmen of the World emblem appeared in a cemetery monument catalog from around 1900. However, many tree stones were chosen to memorialize individuals or families not associated with this organization.
