I really like this image because it’s a really authentic primary source, the image would be perfect for teaching the time period in which segregation was prominent. I could use The Watsons Go to Birmingham by Christopher Curtis in my language arts lessons.
I plan to use this historical image in a lesson on segregation. Students could learn the difference in how African American people were treated by examining the image.
Perfect for a lesson the Civil Rights Movement AND I can reinforce lessons on the difference in primary and secondary sources. Students can examine the image, determine whether it is a primary or secondary source, and explain how they determined this.
