Monticello to Burnside KY stagecoach, early 19th century

This photo of the Monticello to Burnside KY stagecoach the history of a local community as well as the history of travel for leisure and business before automobiles and airplanes. The stagecoach is pictured on the route that is today state highway 90 in the Mill Springs community. The stagecoach ran from 1896 to 1915. Monticello was not served by a railroad, but residents could take the stagecoach to Burnside to travel by rail.   1. This historical image is perfect for Kentucky history and lessons on transportation and how roads were first built. Students could learn what roads used to look like and how people traveled before cars and airplanes.
