Mile Hi Hotel in Butte, Montana, ca. 1930–1945

Motels, or motor hotels, included a parking lot for cars. They originated in the 1920s and the word “motel” became popular after World War II as more tourists drove to their destinations in cars.

The Mile Hil Motel was located at 3499 Harrison Avenue in Butte, Montana according to an old tourist brochure. Today this site is occupied by a Hampton Inn.
