A maid is featured in this 1903 advertisement for porcelain bathroom fixtures. The text stresses Standard fixtures are modern and assure absolute sanitation, addressing concerns of domestic scientists about cleanliness and hygiene in the home. This ad also represents the shift to indoor plumbing and electric or gas power occurring in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. New rooms called bathrooms were replacing privies and outhouses.
