Lots of good primary sources are NOT on the internet! Local historical societies and small museums are overlooked treasure troves of primary sources—letters, diaries, scrapbooks, photographs, local publications, and ephemera. Many smaller local institutions have archives of primary sources that may not be listed on websites. Call or visit the archives of local universities’ archives, historical societies, libraries, and museums. Discuss the themes that you are teaching in your social studies classroom and ask for suggestions.
