I house - early American housing

I house – side view. This Kentucky I house was built in 1844 when the family remodeled their original log house. The log house was incorporated into the ell on the back. The interior was remodeled in a late nineteenth century style and in the twentieth century, aluminum siding was added to the exterior. This house and its outbuildings were part of a family-operated farm and mill in central Kentucky.

  1. In Kentucky, state history is taught in 4th grade. Using images of old homes, mills, and other buildings like this could help elementary students grasp the changes in how people have lived and worked over time.
